Cold weather and a lack of water didn’t stop two teenage boys from getting into the Kaiserslautern municipal pool Monday evening. The only problem: They couldn’t get out.

After gaining unauthorized access to the facility on the eastern side of town near the Volkspark, the 14-year-old and the 17-year-old got stuck in a deeper section of the empty pool and had to call for help, according to the Westpfalz Police Department.

The younger teen had fallen into an area about 13 feet deep. His companion tried to help him by getting into the pool via the water slide, but both ended up not being able to climb out, police said. The fire department had to rescue them.

Neither was injured in the escapade, but both face trespassing charges, police said.
