On Sunday evening, police in Kaiserslautern set up a checkpoint for cars driving on Mainzer Strasse. Over the course of an hour, 18 vehicles were checked. Six drivers were given warnings for not having the required documents with them. In Germany, warnings related to traffic violations are usually considered low-level misdemeanors, sometimes punished with a small fine. Six car owners received “defect reports with a deadline by which they must rectify the defects found”, a press release from Kaiserslautern police said. Also, one car owner had not had his car inspected, which is mandatory every two years in Germany. He was fined. A 22-year-old woman “showed typical drug-related symptoms. A quick test indicated amphetamine.” The woman was taken to the police station for a blood test and the car was handed over to the owner.
