Fifteen soldiers from U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz became part of an American holiday tradition Thursday.

The soldiers were shown at attention while the national anthem played during the NFL’s Bears-Lions matchup, which was the first of three games yesterday. CBS didn’t quite spell the German state’s name right, but points for trying.

The overseas military community can check them out on the recorded broadcast of the game through the American Forces Network’s AFN Now app. The soldiers are about five minutes into the game broadcast.

Ratings haven’t been announced yet, but it’s safe to say a lot of people saw those soldiers. The average viewership across all three 2023 games was over 34 million people, according to NFL.com.
