1. FC Kaiserslautern plays Schalke 04 Friday night as the team hopes to extend its undefeated streak to six games.

The Red Devils have three wins and two ties in their last five games, a streak that shot them up the second division table.

They are now in ninth place, with 20 points, only two points out of third, which qualifies for the relegation games against a Bundesliga team.

But that is in the future, first the team must get past Schalke, a former Bundesliga team that has been struggling this season.

They head into the weekend in 13th place, but are coming of a 2-2 tie in Hamburg, coming back from a 2-0 deficit.

Both FCK and Schalke have been German champions in the past, but Schalke has never won the Bundesliga title. The last of its seven titles was in 1958 before the Bundesliga was founded. The Red Devils’ last Bundesliga title was a while back too, though, in 1998.

In other FCK news, the club announced on Wednesday that it extended defender Jan Elvedi’s contract but did not say for how long.

The Red Devils are at Fritz Walter Stadium again at 1 p.m. on Dec. 7, when they take on Karlsruhe.
