A Ramstein High School junior working on his Eagle Scout project and an Air Force first sergeant who survived a rare form of blood cancer are spearheading a bone-marrow donor drive.

Scout volunteers from Troop 156, led by Eagle Scout candidate Cole Mitchell, will be at the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at a table between the food court and base exchange.

Registration involves paperwork and getting the inside of each cheek swabbed, a process that takes only a few minutes, Mitchell said.

Once complete, new donors will be entered into a nationwide system of bone marrow donors.

Those who miss out on the drive this weekend can still register at five locations in the area through Dec. 1: the Ramstein and Vogelweh commissaries, the KMCC food court, and the north and southside gyms on Ramstein, said Master Sgt. Brittin Davis. Each location should have tables staffed between 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., dependent on volunteer turnout, he said.
