The opening of the Kaiserslautern Christmas Market is the talk of the town, but there’s plenty of other fun to be had this weekend if you’re not ready to let the glühwein flow. Here’s what’s going on around the KMC.
5K Turkey Trot Costume Run (Nov. 23): Gobble, gobble, gobble. Community members can run dressed up as turkeys and pilgrims at Kaiserslautern’s Family and MWR fun run on Saturday at the special events center on Rhine Ordnance Barracks. Medals are awarded to the top three male, female and youth (under 12) finishers. First place in each category wins a frozen turkey. Registration starts at 9 a.m. with the race kicking off at 10 a.m. Online registration is also open. The cost is $8 per person for ages 12 and up.
94th International Volksmarch in Miesenbach (Nov. 23-24): The Ramstein Roadrunners Club is hosting a “Turkey Trot” of its own as it celebrates its 39th Thanksgiving-themed recreational hike. Participants can tackle trails from 3 to 13 miles long. Start times on Saturday and Sunday begin at 8 a.m. and all hikers must finish by 3 p.m. All routes begin and end at the Miesenbach multipurpose hall. The cost is 3 euros per person. The workshop is open to stage combatants of any experience level who are 14 and older. The cost is $50. You can register here or at the KMC Onstage box office. The workshop runs from noon to 4 p.m. at the Kaiserslautern Community Activity Center on Daenner Kaserne.
