Traffic at Ramstein Air Base next week could be backed up at certain times due to a military exercise scheduled to start Monday, base officials said.

Operation Varsity will run until Friday, the base said in a statement Friday.

Besides traffic delays, base and local residents may see or hear greater emergency response activity related to the exercise, such as loudspeaker announcements, sirens and emergency vehicles.

Operation Varsity is a quarterly exercise using simulated scenarios, including logistics and cargo movement, contingency planning, aircraft incidents and emergency response.
