The U.S. military police was called to the scene Wednesday night after a 32-year-old man lost control over his car while driving on country road B37 near Kaiserslautern-Einsiedlerhof around 10 p.m.

The man wanted to turn on to B270 towards Siegelbach when inappropriate speed made the car go off the road, according to a press release from Kaiserslautern police.

The vehicle hit a traffic sign, a parked e-scooter and finally a tree. The car was so severely damaged that it had to be towed.

During the accident investigation, the police officers detected the smell of alcohol, according to the release.

But the man refused to take a breath alcohol test, so he was taken to the police station to have a blood sample taken.

The results of the blood test were not mentioned in the release, but it said that the “32-year-old now has to justify his actions”.

The man is now under investigation for the suspicion of “endangering road traffic” and “driving under the influence of alcohol.”

Kaiserslautern police did not immediately respond to the question if the man is a member of the U.S. military.
