Residents of the Kaiserslautern Military Community and others can honor those who fought and died in the First World War and World War II this holiday weekend at American Battle Monuments Commission cemetery ceremonies in France or Belgium.

The closest ceremony this year is at St. Mihiel American Cemetery in eastern France. It’s about a two-hour drive from the KMC. Others within about a three-hour journey are Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Epinal American Cemetery in France and Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery in Belgium.

Aside from ceremonies, Lorraine American Cemetery is also worth a visit and is about an hour away by car, in St. Avold, France.

All of the ceremonies are on Nov. 11. Check the ABMC website for times and cemetery details.
