Kaiserslautern October fair begins and spooky fun starts this weekend in the KMC


The Oktoberkerwe fair returns to Kaiserslautern, running from Oct. 18-28, 2024,  with family-friendly rides, food and games. It is one of the largest festivals in the Westpfalz region.

Fall is in full-swing as spooky season kicks off early Halloween fun in the Kaiserslautern Military Community this weekend.

Here’s what’s happening:

  • Kaiserslautern October Fair (Oct. 18-28): The Oktoberkerwe, one of the largest folk festivals in the Westpfalz region, kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday, at Kaiserslautern’s Messeplatz. Opening day events include a parade, a beer keg tapping with Mayor Manfred Schulz, and a fireworks display at 9 p.m. The fest features a mix of thrilling rides, traditional German fare and family-friendly attractions.  

  • Zombie Cannibal Asylum Murder Mystery Night (Oct. 18): Don your best zombie costume and join KMC Onstage at the Landstuhl Community Club for interactive fun to kick off spooky season. Participants will investigate murders, follow clues, and solve mysteries as the evening unfolds. Register by calling DSN 541-9129 or 0611-143-541-9129. 

  • Boo Bash (Oct. 19): The Ramstein Community Center is calling on all little ghouls to throw on their best costumes and join in some early Halloween fun on Saturday from 2 p.m.- 5 p.m. Pre-registration is highly encouraged. Tickets are $5 for ages 3 and up.  

  • USO Fall Fest (Oct. 19): Celebrate the season with USO Kaiserslautern at Pulaski Park with family-friendly activities including music by DJ Nola, pumpkin decorating, a photo booth and more. The USO mobile canteen will serve up free hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn, and other treats from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

  • Sunday Shopping in Downtown Kaiserslautern (Oct. 20): Coinciding with the Oktoberkerwe, the Kaiser in Lautern advertising agency hosts a rare Sunday shopping opportunity in the city center. Shops will open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. 

Looking ahead:

Mackenbach Zombie Crawl (Oct. 26): Join the horde for a Halloween themed bar crawl visiting multiple locations in Mackenbach. Registration and event cups are on sale at the Fiesta Mexicana restaurant.
