The Kaiserslautern Main Station was temporarily evacuated early Friday after police found two unattended suitcases near the station’s locker area, police said in a Friday statement.

Federal police discovered the suitcases around 1:20 a.m. during a routine check. Surveillance footage showed three men leaving the bags before heading toward the city center, prompting authorities to cordon off the area by 1:30 a.m., police siad.

A bomb-sniffing dog was brought in, but no explosives were detected.

The suitcases contained clothing and documents identifying the owner, a 21-year-old student from Cameroon, who retrieved the bags later in the morning. He told police the suitcases didn’t fit in the lockers, so he left them behind.

Police are considering whether to charge the student for the costs of the operation.
