From Oktoberfest celebrations and sci-fi conventions to local markets and family events, the Kaiserslautern Military Community is gearing up for a weekend full of activities for all ages.

Here’s what’s happening:

  • KMC Onstage presents the Tournament of Tiny Plays (Sept. 27-29): Support local talent at this unique competition featuring four short plays directed by local directors. Evening performances run Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., with 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday. Audience members can vote for their favorite play, with winners moving on to a regional theater festival.

  • Salinenfest in Bad Dürkheim (Sept. 28-29): Celebrate the end of summer with live music, a charity run and a traditional salt-making demonstration. From savory grilled dishes and local wine to homemade cakes, the festival offers something for all tastes. Proceeds go toward preserving the historic saline installation.

  • Science Fiction Treffen at Technik Museum Speyer (Sept. 28-29): Step into a world of science fiction as fans of Star Wars, Star Trek, Anime, Marvel and DC Comics gather for this popular event. Cosplayers are welcome and a Cosplay Contest will be held Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Expect plenty of costumed characters, fan clubs and vendors.

  • Oktoberfest in Homburg (Sept. 28-29 & Oct. 2-6): Kick off Oktoberfest season with Bavarian fun near Kaiserslautern. Feast on traditional dishes, enjoy ice-cold local beer and dance along to live bands in Homburg. The celebration continues into early October with a grand parade closing the event on Oct. 6.

  • Wallonenmesse in Otterberg (Sept. 28-29): Looking to shop local this weekend? The Wallonenmesse seeks to promote local business and features a wide range of products, from fashion and home goods to lifestyle items. Family friendly activities like bullriding, football darts and live music ensure a fun day out for everyone

Looking ahead:

Medieval market fair at Gelterswoog Lake (Oct. 3-6): Step back in time at this medieval market, featuring costumed performers, crafts and live demonstrations. A fun lakeside trip back in time for history lovers and families alike.
