The Atlantic Academy Kaiserslautern will host a free screening of “Fremont,” a film about an Afghan refugee’s journey in California, on Sunday as part of its America on Screen event series.

Directed by the Iranian Babak Jalali, the film features popular actor Jeremy Allen White, known for his role in “The Bear.” “Fremont” tells the story of Donya, a former U.S. government translator from Afghanistan who works in a fortune cookie factory while grappling with displacement and searching for purpose.

Jalali will participate in a virtual Q&A following the screening.

The screening starts at 6 p.m. at Union-Studio für Filmkunst, Kerststrasse 24. Free tickets are available at the theater box office, with a limit of two per person. Any remaining tickets will be available at the door.

The event is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office and the Atlantic Academy Kaiserslautern, which promotes transatlantic dialogue. The America on Screen cinema series includes seven events and runs through Dec. 8.
