The American husband of a woman found dead in Reichenbach-Steegen in June is still refusing to speak about the crime, Kaiserslautern’s public prosecutors said this week.
The 52-year-old U.S. citizen is charged with manslaughter and has made no statements regarding the death of his 34-year-old wife, local newspaper Die Rheinpfalz reported Thursday. Neither the suspect nor the victim had any connections to the U.S. military, police said at the time.
The couple’s 6-year-old son discovered his mother dead in their home and called the authorities, Westpfalz police said in June. The man, who has not been identified by name, had been barred from the residence earlier in the month by a protective order.
He was arrested near Kusel without resistance. Authorities say he broke in and killed her during the night.
Germany is handling the case as the crime took place on German soil, Udo Gehring, Kaiserslautern’s lead public prosecutor, confirmed Friday.
Since the suspect is not affiliated with the U.S. military, no exceptions apply under the NATO Status of Forces Agreement, he said.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details about the cause of death or the involvement of a weapon have been released, according to officials.
