The Red Devils fell to Hertha BSC Berlin 4-3 Saturday night in a wild, action-packed match at Fritz Walter Stadium.

Hertha scored first with a goal in the 28th minute by Luca Schuler. Kaiserslautern’s Phillip Klement evened the score with a left-footer four minutes later.

FCK took the lead in front of 48,600 spectators on Aaron Opoku’s goal shortly before halftime, after taking a pass from Daniel Hanslik.

Hertha got the better start to the second half with Derry Scherhant scoring in the 51st minute. Schuler scored his second goal of the game in the 64th minute to put Berlin back in front 3-2.

Boris Tomiak tied the game with a left footer in the 68th minute, but Hertha struck back eleven minutes later. Michael Cuisance found a hole in the Kaiserslautern defense to score the game-winner.

The loss dropped the Red Devils to ninth place in the second division standing, while Hertha climbed to sixth place.

The game was overshadowed by fighting between the clubs’ fans, police reported, and at least two spectators were injured during the game. One by a thrown beverage cup, the other by falling debris from a firecracker.

League action pauses next weekend for national team games. 1. FC Kaiserslautern is back in action on Sept. 14, with a game in Hannover. The next home game is at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 21 against Hamburg.
