Man killed on highway A63 after exiting vehicle due to breakdown

A 32-year-old man died Friday afternoon in a collision on highway A63 between Goellheim and Winnweiler, according to a Westpfalz Police statement.

The man had exited his vehicle after experiencing a breakdown when he was struck by a pickup truck towing a trailer, police said based on initial information.

He died at the scene.

The two occupants of the Toyota pickup were injured and transported to a hospital, authorities said.

A rescue helicopter and a police helicopter were deployed to the scene. The autobahn remained closed Friday night in the direction of Kaiserslautern as the investigation continued.

A forensic expert has been appointed to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
