1. FC Kaiserslautern played Fürth to a 2-2 tie Friday evening in their home opener.

The team from Franconia took a 1-0 lead on a penalty by former U.S. MNT midfielder Julius Green in the 31st minute, following a foul by Jannis Heuer on Noel Futkeu.

Fuerth went up 2-0, with Futkeu scoring just seven minutes later. The Red Devils got a goal back in first-half stoppage time, when Daniel Hanslik scored with a right-footer on an assist by Boris Tomiak.

Kaiserslautern evened the score in front of 41,625 spectators at Fritz Walter Stadium on a goal by Ragnar Ache in the 84th minute.

The Red Devils’ top scorer, who had been out with an injury and came on the field 11 minutes earlier, converted a pass from Aaron Opoku past Fürth’s keeper for the equalizer.

Both teams traded chances the rest of the game, but both failed to score.

The tie leaves Fürth leading the table ahead of FCK, before second division action continues on Saturday.

Next up for Kaiserslautern is a German cup game at third league Ingolstadt on Aug. 17. The team returns to Fritz Walter for the Saturday night match Aug. 31, against Hertha BSC Berlin.
