Kaiserslautern’s Altstadtfest, or old town festival, is set to return from July 5-7, drawing an expected 150,000 visitors for a weekend of diverse cultural offerings in the city.
The event will feature performances on six stages, with over 30 musical acts spanning genres from rock to soul and blues.
The festival will also showcase a variety of food options, including local specialties and international cuisine, as well as handcrafted goods from 70 vendors. New additions this year include a stage from the Science & Innovation Alliance Kaiserslautern and a flea market in Kanalstrasse.
A medieval fair in Klosterstrasse offers a glimpse into the past with knights and jesters, while the “Lautern tanzt” on Rittersberg invites everyone to dance. A unique Vespa display by the Vespafreunde K’Lautern-Westpfalz will add a touch of Italian charm on Saturday.
“The Altstadtfest is a symbol of Kaiserslautern’s vibrant tradition and cultural diversity,” Mayor Beate Kimmel said in a Monday statement.
Road closures will be in effect from July 4 at 7 a.m. until July 8 at noon. Key areas affected include Spittelstrasse, which will have one lane closed from July 4 at 2 p.m. until July 8 at 1 a.m. for the Antenne Kaiserslautern Radio stage. The opposite lane will also face restrictions with a speed limit during setup. Additional closures will be in place from July 5 at 4 p.m. to July 8 at 1 a.m.
