A truck crash at the Landstuhl interchange blocks the A62 feeder road early Friday morning. (Kaiserslautern Police Department)
Significant traffic delays are expected until tonight at the Landstuhl interchange following a severe truck accident early Friday morning.
The 59-year-old driver was traveling on the A6 toward Saarbrücken and attempted to switch to the A62 toward Trier. As a result of the wet road and inappropriate speed, the truck skidded, broke through the guardrails and came to rest across the roadway, blocking the feeder road of the A62 towards and Pirmasens, Kaiserslautern police said.
The driver, who sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital as a precaution, had an outstanding warrant. Unable to pay the fine, he was taken to the Frankenthal Correctional Facility after release from the hospital.
The Ramstein Fire Department was dispatched to secure the truck and contain leaking fluids. Significant damage to the guardrails and the challenging recovery of the truck are expected to cause considerable delays in the area of the Landstuhl interchange until early Friday evening. The total damage is estimated to be in the six-figure euro range.
