1. FC Kaiserslautern ended the second division season with a bang Sunday, defeating Eintracht Braunschweig 5-0 at a sold-out Fritz Walter Stadium.

Marlon Ritter scored in the 36th minute on a right-footer, and the Red devils never looked back. Ritter’s right foot put FCK up 2-0 after the intermission, and Daniel Hanslik scored in the 53rd minute to give Kaiserslautern a 3-0 lead.

Ritter scored his third goal of the game and 10th of the season in the 69th minute on a long cross by Kenny Prince Redondo. Aaron Opoku closed out the scoring in the 76th minute on the fifth right-footed goal of the game.

The only downer in coach Friedhelm Funkel’s last regular-season game for the Red Devils was a red card against Almamy Toure after he punched an opponent.

Kaiserslautern finishes what was all-in-all a disappointing season in 13th place with a 11-17-6 record.

Next up for FCK is the biggest game of the year, the German cup final on Saturday, against Bundesliga champion Bayer 04 Leverkusen at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium. Kickoff is at 8 p.m.

The 2024/25 season begins Aug. 2.
