Young American detained for buzzed e-scooter ride near main train station

Kaiserslautern police patrol apprehended an 18-year-old American for operating an electric scooter while under the influence of alcohol around 3:15 a.m. Sunday.

The young man was stopped on Zollamtstrasse and subjected to an alcohol test, yielding a blood alcohol concentration of .08%, Westpfalz Police said.

Following a voluntary follow-up test at the police station on Gaustrasse, he was handed over to the American military police for further processing.

Police did not state whether the man was a military member or dependent.

In Germany, it is illegal to operate electric rental scooters while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The legal blood alcohol limit for e-scooter riders is 0.05% for adults.
