German firefighters employed by the U.S. military went on strike yesterday and today to demand higher wages and better working conditions. Workers union ver.di said many of its members work for the minimum 12 euros an hour while remaining at work on 24-hour shifts. The strike also raises concerns over the non-recognition in Germany of training received in American firefighting schools, and the lack of age-appropriate working conditions, ver.di said in a statement.
