Air defense interceptors, armored vehicles and munitions for Ukraine included in new military aid worth $425M

The U.S. is providing about $425 million in new military aid to Ukraine that includes air defense interceptors, munitions for rocket systems and artillery, armored vehicles and anti-tank weapons, the Pentagon announced Friday.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin acknowledged North Korean troops joining the fight in Ukraine could encourage other nations to take action. But he did not elaborate.

Some North Korean troops now in Russia’s Kursk region, another 2,000 moving closer to Ukraine, Pentagon says

The Pentagon could not say whether North Korean troops are already fighting in Ukraine. But CNN reported a small number of North Korean troops are inside Ukraine and officials expect that number to grow.

“We are increasingly concerned that Russia intends to use these soldiers in combat or to support combat operations against Ukrainian forces in Russia’s Kursk Oblast,” said Sabrina Singh, the deputy Pentagon press secretary.

US forces in Iraq part of second raid on ISIS militants as 2 injured troops from earlier attack transported to Walter Reed

U.S. forces on Thursday participated in a second Iraqi-led raid this week on ISIS fighters as two American service members injured in the earlier attack are moved to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

2 American service members injured in US-Iraq raid that killed multiple ISIS fighters

There are about 2,500 U.S. military personnel in Iraq participating in a counter-ISIS mission. U.S. officials in September announced American troops will remain in Iraq as the two countries agree to a transition of the American-led mission against ISIS.

Austin announces $400 million in new Ukraine aid during visit to Kyiv

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin in a surprise visit to Kyiv on Monday announced another $400 million in munitions, armored vehicles and anti-tank weapons for Ukrainian troops fighting to defeat invading Russian forces.

More missiles, armored vehicles for Ukraine included in latest military aid worth $425M

The aid will be provided through the presidential drawdown authority, which means equipment is pulled from existing U.S. military stocks and sent on an emergency basis. The latest aid comes after the White House’s authority to send more assistance was set to expire at the end of September.
