(Stars and Stripes)

DIVISION I

Nile C. Kinnick Red Devils

2023-24 season record — 23-2 overall, last year’s Far East D-I Tournament runner-up after winning in 2023.

Head coach — Joe Mohn, first season.

Key performers — Leona Turner, Sr., G-F; Sydney Walker, Jr., G; Lindsey Andrade, Jr., G (transferred from Zama).

Outlook — Rebuilding. Red Devils lost 60 percent of their offense with Kotone Turner graduating and Ka’Miyah Dabner transferring. It will take time, but Mohn is hopeful the team can find a rhythm by midseason.

DIVISION II

E.J. King Cobras

2023-24 season record — 20-0 overall, defending Far East D-II Tournament champion after finishing second in 2023.

Head coach — McKinzy Best, fifth season.

Key performers — Moa Best, Sr., G; Miu Best, Sr., G; Pia Lagrito, Sr., G; Joanna Hall, Jr., F.

Outlook — Reloading-contending. They’ve got the best guard tandem in the Pacific back along with some height in the middle in Hall. Losing the D-II MVP Maliwan Schinker will hurt. But this team will contend.

Matthew C. Perry Samurai

2023-24 season record — 7-14 overall, sixth in Far East D-II.

Head coach — Joshua Henry, second season.

Key performers — Brooklyn Hunter, So., F; Elieza Cuaco, Fr., G; Cambria Villanueva, Jr., G; Leilani Zuniga, So., G; Starr Kinder, So., G; Priscilla Ramirez, Fr., G

Outlook — Rebuilding, but with plenty of potential. Cuaco makes the machine go. Hunter can be a force in the paint. This is no longer the automatic W that it was a couple of seasons ago.

Yokota Panthers

2023-24 season record — 10-12 overall, third in Far East Division II for the second straight year.

Head coach — Byron Wrenn, seventh season.

Key performers — Erica Haas, Sr., G; Beverly Gardner, Sr., SF; Kayla Bogdan, Sr., F; Coco Jones, So., G; Ty’Lasia Anu, Jr., F; Sierra Light, Sr., G; Molly Bogdan, So., F; Lucero Giddens, Sr., G; Chloe Cunningham, Sr., G.

Outlook — Reloading-contending. Not a great deal of height, but the backcourt is loaded. Gardner can score, Jones and Haas are excellent ballhandlers and playmakers. With so many seniors, it might be now-or-never regarding the D-II title.

Zama Trojans

2023-24 season record — 10-7 overall, last year’s Far East D-II runner-up.

Head coach — Veronica Tipton-Jones, fourth season.

Key performers — Juliet Bitor, Sr., G; Kira Herring, So., SG-SF; Bella Hunter, Jr., G.

Outlook — Definitely reloading. Graduation and transfers took a good 75 percent of the offense and experience. Bitor is a solid core veteran, but most of the team is new or up from the junior varsity.

Robert D. Edgren Eagles

Head coach — Mia Chapman, first season.

Key performers — Teniya Nelson, Jr., G; Reise Redmond, Fr., F; Cinfani Davis, So., C.

Outlook — Starting over. Eagles did not field a team last season due to lack of player interest. So it’s a matter of getting the pieces to fit in the right places; it might take more than a season or so to get the Eagles back on good footing.
