DIVISION I

Nile C. Kinnick Red Devils

2023-24 season record — 20-4 overall, defending Far East Division I Tournament champion.

Head coach — Robert Stovall, 13th season.

Key performers — Derek Ulrich, Sr., F; Gregory Tolar, Sr., G; Nicholas Whyte, Sr., F; Arashi Blocton, Sr., G; Kai Eccleston, So., G; Elijah Mosley, Jr.; Isaiah Kimbrough, Jr., F (transferred from Hawaii).

Outlook — Reloading. Red Devils graduated most of their backcourt, but bring back significant height and their crop of guards is more than serviceable. Potential to contend is there.

DIVISION II

E.J. King Cobras

2023-24 season record — 14-10 overall, third in Far East Division II Tournament last two years.

Head coach — Travis Elliott, sixth season.

Key performers — Jeremy Phillips, Sr., G; Nolan Grubb, So.; Jared Hernandez, Jr.; Raphael Carbe, Sr., F (transferred from Naples, Fla.).

Outlook — Rebuilding. Cobras still have plenty of scoring firepower in Phillips, while Carbe is a solid addition. Could contend for D-II title, if younger players develop and injuries don’t bungle things up.

Robert D. Edgren Eagles

2023-24 season record — 4-8 overall.

Head coach — David Carrano, second season (took last season off).

Key performers — Micah Magat, Sr., G; Dominic Waters, So., SG-SF; P.J. Lorenzo, Sr., G (transfers in December); JaShawn Speights-Pace, Jr., C; Adrian Briones, So., SF-PF; Jake Charbonneau, So., C-PF.

Outlook — Somewhere in between. On paper, the team is rebuilding, but enough veteran blood returns and new faces are on board that the potential is there to compete, perhaps contend.

Matthew C. Perry Samurai

2023-24 season record — 16-8 overall, second in Far East D-II.

Head coach — Daniel Burns, fourth season.

Key performers — Kameron Ramos, Jr., G; Kenshin Dukowitz, Fr., G Sam Kasperski, Jr.

Outlook — Rebuilding. About 60 percent of their offense departed when B.J. Hill graduated and Jahiion Francois transferred. Ramos and Dukowitz aren’t at that level, but are serviceable and the backcourt is in good hands. Kasperski is a force in the middle.

Yokota Panthers

2023-24 season record — 18-12 overall, two-time defending Far East D-II champion.

Head coach — James Bailey, first season (has previously coached Yokota’s girls team).

Key performers — Jai Bailey, Sr., F (reigning D-II MVP); Adian Jones, So., G (transferred from Hohenfels, Germany); Kysiem Banks, So., G; Baron Reed, Jr., F; Brailyn Ivey, Jr., F; Rodrigo Negron, Jr., G.

Outlook — Reloading-contending. Panthers lost nine seniors from two years ago and still repeated; again, Yokota lost some talent to graduation, but the PCS Plane blessed the Panthers with Jones, whom Bailey compares to former Panther Hunter Cort who’s playing professionally in Japan. Don’t be surprised if the Panthers are back in the D-II final four.

Zama Trojans

2023-24 season record — 10-17 overall.

Head coach — Sentwali Helton, first season (assisted previously).

Key performers — Kosey Hameen, Sr., F; Aydan Helton, So., SG; Casey Stewart, So., PG; Adrian Santiago-Cruz, Sr., F; Chris Jones, Sr., SG-SF; Bruce Davidson, Jr., SG-SF; Asher Jorgensen, Jr., F; Michael King, Fr., G.

Outlook — Reloading-contending. Helton has picked up where he left off providing plenty of offensive firepower. Stewart is a consummate playmaker. Losing Rhino Aumua to transfer might hurt inside, but there’s enough serviceable height; Santiago-Cruz is solid inside. King could be impressive.
