Gigantic crossed sabers split the sky at sunset

(Stars and Stripes)

Baghdad, Iraq, Jan. 17, 2004: Gigantic crossed sabers, held by giant hands representing the hands of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, split the sky at sunset Saturday in Baghdad. The sabers form what is called the Victory Arch, which leads into parade grounds built by Saddam. The parade grounds honor the deaths of Iraqi soldiers during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s.
