Gwangju, South Korea, July 8, 1959: Staff members at the 77th Army Hospital near discuss problems with Dr. (Capt.) Vernon Hendrix (second from right), medical officer of Detachment K, U.S. Army Advisory Group, Korea, at Sang Mu Dae. The American doctor advises several ROK hospitals and checks the health of orphans near his detachment’s headquarters in his spare time. He knows the medical problems in his area through trips he has made to six provincial hospitals not too far from Sang Mu Dae.
