Paris, Sept. 22, 1965: Artist Man Ray — photographed in his Paris studio — stands before some of his works. To his right stands a print of “Orchestra,” one of the 10 pochoirs (stencils) from the series titled “Revolving Doors.” Right behind him is a print titled “Shadows,” from the same series. Man Ray produced the original “Revolving Doors” series as collages between 1916 and 1917.

The collages, whose geometric shapes combine machine-like and anthropomorphic forms, were framed and installed on a rotating pole that the viewer could spin. The original collages were destroyed, but Ray later reproduced them as limited edition stencil prints (pochoirs), published by Éditions Surréalistes in Paris.
