Tuzla Air Base, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Aug. 27, 1998: Steamrollers flatten and compress newly laid asphalt on the base. A local Bosnia company, JATA, was resurfacing 8,153 feet of the runway. Once the largest military airport of former Yugoslavia, it became the main hub for the Implementation Force (IFOR), the NATO-led multinational peace enforcement force in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In October 1998 it opened as an international civil airport.
