(Stars and Stripes)

Tokyo, Japan, December 1953: For the start of National Newspaper Week (Oct. 1-7), Stars and Stripes’ archives staff brings you this historic peek into Stars and Stripes Pacific’s newsroom at the Hardy Barracks in Tokyo.

The editorial staff moved into the old Japanese Army barracks from their first home on the third floor of the Nippon Times on Nov. 29, 1953. By December of that year, the business, circulation and production facilities had also moved into the building. Stars and Stripes’ Pacific staff have been putting out a paper continuously since May 14, 1945.
