Joseph Ditzler

Joseph Ditzler is a Marine Corps veteran and the Pacific editor for Stars and Stripes. He’s a native of Pennsylvania and has written for newspapers and websites in Alaska, California, Florida, New Mexico, Oregon and Pennsylvania. He studied journalism at Penn State and international relations at the University of Oklahoma.

Pacific War author’s ‘Guam,’ due in March, fills a void

“Guam: The Battle for an American Island in World War II” sets the scene not only for the Japanese takeover and occupation from Dec. 10, 1941, but the 20 days of battle in July and August 1944 and the complete, post-war change that came over the island.


Austin addresses China, UFOs and women in combat during Laos visit

On one of his last trips to Asia as Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin expressed regret that China chose not to meet with Southeast Asian defense ministers this week in Laos. At the same press conference, he also talked briefly in praise of women’s contributions in the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum is an experience both subtle and sublime, a park within a park. The museum has gathered more than two dozen structures, ranging from simple farmhouses to an industrialist’s mansion, and arranged them in a 17-acre compound inside Koganei Park in Koganei city.
