YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — The last of 3,000 sailors who will be cut from the Navy’s ranks to meet congressionally mandated force strength numbers will be notified in the coming week, Navy officials said.

On Tuesday, the Navy released the results of the Phase II Enlisted Retention Board, which adjourned in October after reviewing sailors E-6 through E-8 in 31 over-manned rates for retention or separation.

Commanders and officers in charge have until Monday to inform the soon-to-be-separated sailors, according to a Navy news release. Sailors considered by the board but not chosen for separation will be able to view their status on the Navy Personnel Command’s web page after the seven-day notification period has passed, the release said.

Phase I adjourned in September and focused on sailors who have served between seven and 15 years.

The Navy is providing transition assistance to servicemembers who are involuntarily separated.
