Cmdr. Stacey O’Neal, the leader of Navy Talent Acquisition Group, San Antonio, has been relieved of command.

Rear Adm. James P. Waters, commander of Navy Recruiting Command, relieved O’Neal due to a loss of confidence in her ability to perform her duties as commanding officer, the Navy announced Friday. O’Neal has been reassigned to Naval Medical Forces Development Command at Joint Base San Antonio.

Capt. Tommy L. Edgeworth, deputy commander of Navy Recruiting Region West, has temporarily assumed command.

Under federal privacy law, military officials are not required to disclose the reasons for removing or reassigning personnel. Military officials often cite “a loss of confidence” when commanders are removed from their posts without providing any specifics that led to the decision.

O’Neal enlisted in the Navy in 1994 as a Machinist Mate serving aboard USS Platte, according to her Navy bio. In 2001, she was accepted for an officer program. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University North Florida and was commissioned through the Enlisted Commissioning Program in December 2003.

Her personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (6) and various unit and campaign awards.

The mission of NTAG San Antonio is to attract the highest caliber of talent across Central and South Texas to serve in the U.S. Navy. NTAG San Antonio’s area of responsibility includes more than 30 Navy recruiting stations.
