(Tribune News Service) — The U.S. Air Force’s Thunderbirds will join the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels for the Blue Angels’ annual homecoming show at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida, the base announced Monday morning.

“Having our military’s top flight demonstration teams perform at the ‘Cradle of Naval Aviation’ will undoubtedly be an experience you won’t want to miss!” said NAS Pensacola Commanding Officer Capt. Terry ‘Village’ Shashaty.

“The Blue Angels and the Homecoming Airshow are most certainly ingrained in the identity of Pensacola and the surrounding communities, and we are proud to be able to host a family-friendly event showcasing the capabilities and precision of both the Navy and Air Force teams as well as our civilian performers.”

The homecoming show traditionally closes the Blue Angels’ performance schedule for the year. The 2024 schedule includes 33 shows, which began in March. The Navy’s Flight Demonstration Team performed at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery in early April and will perform as part of the Pensacola Beach Air Show in mid-July.

The Thunderbirds, founded in 1953 — seven years after the Blue Angels and six years after the Air Force became an independent branch of the military — also had a 33-performance schedule for 2024, which is now 34 with the addition of the November show at Pensacola NAS.
