(Tribune News Service) — The Pikes Peak Regional Airshow is back in 2024, headlined by the country’s most famous aerial performers.
Event organizers announced in a news release Tuesday that the Navy’s Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron, a flight showcase team known for tight formation flying in fighter jets, would be visiting the airshow set for Aug. 17-18.
The last time the Blue Angels visited Colorado was earlier in October at the Grand Junction Air Show. That appearance marked the first time the team has been to Colorado in two years.
The biennial airshow drew record-breaking crowds in 2022, so much so that the airport experienced traffic delays and parking issues that required the Colorado Springs Police Department to revise its traffic control plan for the event.
In addition to the Blue Angels, the 2024 show is set to include aircraft from pre-World War II up to the Vietnam War, as well as an Air Force F-22 heritage flight and Navy legacy flight.
More flights and a full roster of aircraft will be announced closer to the event, the release said.
“We look forward to turning our eyes to the sky and welcoming visitors from across the country and around the world for this great community event,” said Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade of the upcoming airshow.
The airshow is hosted by the Army A/DACG facility in the southwest corner of the Colorado Springs Airport. The event’s organizers include the National Museum of World War II Aviation and the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation.
Tickets are set go on sale Jan. 1.
