CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa – The Japanese government said Wednesday that it has requested more information from the United States regarding the hard landing of a Marine Corps Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft in Nevada earlier this week.

“We have asked the United States to keep us updated on the investigation and that information we will provide to relevant officials on Okinawa,” Japan Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told reporters in Tokyo.

Okinawa protested the deployment of a second Osprey squadron to the island this summer and its safety concerns over the aircraft were underscored following an Air Force Pave Hawk helicopter crash on Camp Hansen earlier this month that took the life of an airman.

The Osprey made the hard landing near Creech Air Force Base, Nev., on Monday and all four crewmembers walked away from the incident with no serious injuries, according to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif.

The service declined to release details on damage to the aircraft and said the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
