(Tribune News Service) — The Marine Corps has stopped requiring women to wear pantyhose with their uniform skirts, a change made at the request of one unidentified female Marine.

The Marines announced the change on Monday, but added a caveat: “Hose, when worn, should harmonize with the natural skin tone of individual.”

To minimize confusion, the Marines added, “When hosiery is not worn, shoe liners or no-show socks will be ... worn for hygienic purposes to avoid abrasions or blisters caused by direct contact and rubbing between the foot and shoe.”

Marine Corps Times reported that the Air Force stopped requiring women to wear pantyhose in 2021 and was followed by the Navy the following year. The issue has yet to be fully resolved by the Army.
