Fort Riley officials gave an all-clear Thursday afternoon following a lockdown at the Kansas Army base sparked by fears of an active shooter.

Law enforcement responded at about 11:42 a.m. to a report of gunshots near Custer Hill and requested that all units and personnel in the area initiate lockdown procedures, said Kirk Hutchinson, spokesman for the base. All gates were closed as a precaution.

The lockdown was lifted at 1:04 p.m., and all gates reopened, he said.

“After a thorough search of the area, there is no evidence of a shooting. There are no injuries, and no current threat to the installation,” Hutchinson said. “The safety and security of our community is our top priority, and we take all reports of potential threats extremely seriously.”
