WASHINGTON — Four Army units will deploy to Europe, South Korea and the Middle East in the spring as part of regular unit rotations, the Army announced Friday.
The 2nd Mobile Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division from Fort Campbell, Ky., which specializes in air-assault operations, will deploy to Europe to replace the 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division, which is based at Fort Johnson, La., to train alongside NATO forces.
The U.S. launched Operation Atlantic Resolve in 2014 after Russia’s initial invasion of Ukraine when it annexed the Crimean Peninsula. The operation — meant to bolster NATO’s eastern flank and dissuade Russian forces from entering the alliance’s territory — grew larger after Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
The 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division from Fort Carson, Colo., will deploy to South Korea to replace the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team of the 2nd Infantry Division, which is based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.
The 83rd Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Battalion based at Fort Stewart, Ga., which is part of the 20th Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives Command, will deploy to U.S. Central Command, which oversees military operations in the Middle East, to replace the 22nd CBRN Battalion, which is based at Fort Bliss, Texas.
The 4th Division Sustainment Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division from Fort Carson, Colo., will also deploy to CENTCOM to replace the 17th Sustainment Brigade of the Nevada Army National Guard.
