One soldier was killed and another injured Saturday in a single-vehicle crash near Fairbanks, Alaska, the Army said.
Pfc. Cierra Nglias Truce, 19, of Koror City, Republic of Palau, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Parks Highway near Nenana. She was a passenger in the vehicle, the Army said.
The driver was transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.
Nenana is about 50 miles southwest of Fairbanks, where Truce was stationed at Fort Wainwright.
Truce was a supply specialist with the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 11th Airborne Division.
She joined the Army in March 2023 and trained at Fort Jackson, S.C., and Fort Gregg-Adams, Va., before arriving in Alaska in August 2023, the Army said.
“Pfc. Truce was a high-performing member of the Bobcat Battalion, and her loss is devastating across the formation,” Lt. Col. Jon Doiron, 1-5 Infantry Battalion commander, said in a service news release. “Her tragic death truly impacts the entire Bobcat family, and our support and prayers go out to all of those who considered Cierra friend or family.”
Truce’s death follows that of two soldiers who died in October near Fairbanks when the Light Medium Tactical Vehicle that they were riding in flipped on a dirt road.
The two killed in the crash — Spc. Jeremy Daniel Evans, 23, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Spc. Brian Joshua Snowden, 22, of Lonedell, Mo.—were among 17 soldiers in the vehicle.
Earlier this month, 1st Lt. Brandon Keyon Moultrie, 28, of Columbia, S.C., died at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital after being shot in the back of the head during an altercation outside a downtown Fairbanks bar.
Moultrie was a bystander and not involved in the dispute.
