CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea — Kyle Hamilton keeps some serious company.
The Baltimore Ravens strong safety is a “big-bodied player,” according to a recent Scout’s Notebook column on NFL.com. An All-American at Notre Dame, Hamilton was on the NFL All-Pro roster in 2023, his second season with the league, and the 2024 AFC Pro Bowl roster.
His Pro Bowl teammates include the likes of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and wide receiver Amari Cooper of the Cleveland Browns.
But Hamilton was content Friday, Saturday and Sunday to sign autographs, run defensive drills and play two-hand touch football with students on the field at Humphreys Middle School.
“I think it’s a blessing to be invited here, and I thought it was a no-brainer, being myself half Korean, my mom being born here, and just being able to come back to experience my roots and being able to give back to these people who do so much for us,” he told Stars and Stripes after signing autographs at the commissary Friday evening.
Hamilton visited Humphreys, the largest U.S. military base overseas, as part of the ProCamps program run by a brand marketing company that also arranges appearances by professional athletes on behalf of their clients.
The Defense Commissary Agency partnered with Procter & Gamble to bring athletes like Hamilton through ProCamps for personal appearances at commissaries and to hold football camps with young players on military bases, according to a DeCA news release in February 2023.
“I think this is a great experience for the kids,” Army Staff Sgt. Charles Malone said while watching Sunday’s camp. “Getting a chance to meet and greet with an NFL player and give them those tips and tricks at a young age that will help in the sport.”
On the field Saturday, Hamilton demonstrated offensive drills and played touch football with campers. On Sunday, he coached defensive drills, held a 40-yard dash competition and played more football.
“I hope they learn a lot about the game and about teamwork,” he told Stars and Stripes ahead of the camps. “Because, if it’s not football, whatever they do in life, they got to learn how play with others.”
