A soldier was killed and three others were injured in a weekend collision on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, the Army said Monday.

The name of the 11th Airborne Division soldier is being withheld until next of kin are notified, the service said in a news release.

A vehicle carrying five soldiers was traveling on Arctic Valley Road near Cottonwood Park at 11:30 p.m. Sunday when it collided with a second vehicle carrying a sixth soldier and his wife and child, the Army said.

The impact ejected two soldiers in the first car, according to the release. One was declared dead at Alaska Native Medical Center. The second ejected soldier and the vehicle’s driver were treated there for minor injuries and released.

The family in the second car was treated at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage, according to the Army, which provided no further information on their condition.

The Army Criminal Investigation Command is investigating the crash, the release states.
