A 23-year-old cadet at the U.S. Air Force Academy died this week while at home with her family, the academy said in a Thursday Facebook post.

Cadet 1st Class K. Emily Jean Foster died due to complications from brain tumors that were discovered just two weeks before her death, on Dec. 14, 2024.

Hailing from Eagle, Idaho, Foster was part of the class of 2025 and majoring in Geospatial Sciences, according to the post. She was an instructor pilot with the 94th Flying Training Squadron and had been selected to receive pilot training after graduation, the post said.

“She was a stellar cadet, leader, mentor and friend throughout her time here at the Academy and we are shaken by her loss. We will support Emily’s family, Cadet Squadron 14, her friends and colleagues and the entire Academy team during this difficult time,” said Lt. Gen. Tony Bauernfeind, the academy’s superintendent, in the statement.

The post received hundreds of comments expressing condolences.

The academy’s post notes that support services are available for cadets and staff, including from mental health professionals and the academy’s chaplains.
