MacDill Air Force Base in Florida wrangled with an uninvited guest Monday when an alligator was spotted hiding near the wheels of a KC-135 aerial refueling aircraft.
“Our newest toothy Airman,” according to the base’s cheeky Facebook post.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission took care of the removal. But not without a struggle. Video shows that the 10-foot gator really did not want to leave its post.
Ultimately, the interloper was relocated to the nearby Hillsborough River, according to the base.
Alligators are an ongoing issue for base security, including past instances when alligators were found on the runway “preparing for takeoff.” One gator, even bigger and known as Elvis, has been a problem at MacDill before.
“They (Fish and Wildlife Commission) think Elvis pushed this guy away from home,” MacDill’s Facebook post said.
The video shared this week by the base had nearly 2,000 comments and reactions as of April 23. Some of the comments:
• “Where (on) the checklist does it say remove alligator prior to flight?” Gary Patrick wrote.
• “Could you imagine climbing out of the intake and having it right below you,” Adam Bell posted.
• “This is exactly what happens when a Marine finds himself on an air base,” AW Boyd said.
