RAF LAKENHEATH, England — John Travolta is in England making a film about a pilot trying to reach RAF Lakenheath, which along with other nearby bases is home to thousands of U.S. Air Force personnel.
Travolta has been spotted in Norfolk taking selfies with locals in areas like a Fakenham supermarket, according to the news outlet Suffolk Live.
Travolta’s short film project is based the 1975 Frederick Forsyth novella “The Shepherd,” which is about a pilot who leaves Germany on Christmas Eve in 1957 en route to RAF Lakenheath, and what he encounters along the way.
Travolta, 68, is a longtime pilot who recently received his Boeing 737 license, he said in an Instagram post last month.
RAF Lakenheath is currently not involved in the project in any way, a base spokesperson said Wednesday. The film’s primary shoot is at Raynham Hangar Studios in Fakenham, about 39 miles from Lakenheath.
Travolta posted an Instagram picture of himself April 3rd celebrating his daughter’s birthday in England over afternoon tea, in which he confirms the film shoot and calls “The Shepherd” a book “that I’ve always loved.”
