MANGILAO, Guam – Players who have meant much to their respective teams demonstrated why in a Monday exhibition high school football game pitting Singapore’s All-Star Falcons against island regular-season champion Guam High.

Josh Dawe rushed for three touchdowns, including the game-winning 12-yard run with 50 seconds left, and the Falcons covered the ensuing onside kick to preserve an 18-16 win over the Panthers at George Washington High School in Mangilao.

“He’s a truck,” Falcons coach Michael Petrosino said. “This is his senior year and he’s going out like the superstar he is.”

In defeat, likewise, seniors Tegan Brown, Lorden Aguon and Juwan Jacobs “typified what those guys meant to our team,” Panthers coach Jacob Dowdell said.

Brown rushed 17 times for 172 yards, including a 10-yard TD run, and recorded 25 tackles. “He was the story of the game,” Dowdell said. “If I ever had any doubt about his ability to play college football, he removed it tonight.”

Aguon was 8-for-17 for 105 yards and ran seven times for 48 yards, while Jacobs added 105 yards on 16 carries and two catches for 22 yards.

The Falcons are a collection of players most of whom go to Singapore American School, but the program is affiliated with the Singapore American Community Action Council, their community’s equivalent of MWR.

In the past, the Falcons have played against Okinawa and Korea opposition, but the fall break that permitted them to do so in October in years past was moved to November this year, during Far East Divisions I and II championship week.

So, Petrosino, SACAC and the Falcons arranged to play at Guam High on Monday and later this week against Father Duenas Memorial, also at George Washington.

“It’s the thrill of a lifetime, the greatest kids I could possibly have coached. It’s an absolute honor,” Petrosino said.
