A U.S. sailor died Friday during a port visit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the Defense Department announced Monday.
Petty Officer 1st Class Paris S. Pough, 40, of Columbus, Ga., a hull technician, was assigned to the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), based in San Diego. His death is under investigation, according to Cmdr. Amy Derrick-Frost, spokeswoman for U.S. Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.
Pough enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Jan. 5, 1993, and reported to the Vinson on Aug. 19, 2010, Derrick-Frost said. The Vinson is on a scheduled deployment to the U.S. Fifth Fleet area of responsibility conducting maritime security operations, theater security cooperation efforts, and air missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
