KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — Army and Air Force Exchange Service customers in Germany will not be able to purchase fuel at AAFES gas stations or use their fuel ration card at off-post Esso stations from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m Thursday, according to a news release.

During the shutdown, “customers will not be able to load funds on their fuel card accounts, new fuel cards or replacement cards cannot be issued, and tax free gas purchases will not be possible at the local ESSO Stations," the release noted. Customers "will also not be able to use the fuel card for IFMS (Interagency Fleet Management System) vehicle(s) during this time."

Exchange gas stations will remain open during the outage but will only be able to process cash transactions, AAFES said.

Drivers using off-post ESSO stations during this time period will pay full price for their fuel purchases; gas in Germany can cost more than $8 per gallon.
